Ring Mountain Open Space Preserve
Featured hike
Mile:
0.0: Start at the open space gate, walk through the marshy area, then cross the
bridge.
0.2: Junction. Most hikers take the loop in the clockwise direction, as the numbered
post sequence progresses that way. Bear left onto Phyllis Ellman Loop Trail and
continue uphill.
0.9: Junction. Turn right onto Ring Mountain Fire Road.
1.0: Junction. Turn left on Reed Ranch Fire Road.
1.1: Turn right onto an unmarked but obvious path leading to Petroglyph Rock.
Once past the rock, the path ends back at Reed Ranch Fire Road. Turn left and
retrace your steps to the previous junction.
1.2: Continue straight, now on Phyllis Ellman Loop Trail again.
1.9: Junction, again. Bear left, and retrace your steps to the trailhead.
2.1: Back to the roadside parking on Paradise Drive.
Getting there:
From US 101 in Marin County, exit Paradise Drive/Tamalpais Drive. Drive east,
and turn right onto San Clemente (before The Village shopping center). After a
few blocks, San Clemente dumps into Paradise Drive. Continue on Paradise, past
Westward Drive, to the preserve gate on the right side of the road. It's about
1.5 miles from 101.
