Choose from two Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve trailheads
and hikes
Hike One: 1.4 miles out and back to a viewpoint on Bald Mountain
Beginning from a rough pullout at the (publicly accessible) end of Mount Umunhum
Road, this easy out and back hike passes through chaparral and grassland and
leads to a pretty viewpoint.
High points: Easy stroll with great views of Umunhum and the surrounding
area.
Low points: Tough parking and no connecting trails. Often feels lonely
up here (and not in a good way).

Hike Two: 5.4 miles out and back on Woods Trail
Sierra Azul's only "proper" trailhead is the starting point for a
wonderful introductory hike to this preserve. The well-graded, broad fire road
ascends through woods and pockets of grassland to the turn-around point. Coming
and going look for wildflowers, birds, butterflies, and some good views.
High points: Nice trailhead and great hike with moderate effort.
Low points: No loops available. May be too short for some; the hike can
be extended, but trails get steeper and rolling past the turn-around point.
