0.0: Begin on signed Rankin Park Trail, which starts behind a gate near a picnic table. The trail forks immediately -- take the path to the left.
0.2: Gate and junction with fire road. Pass through the gate and turn right, still ascending.
0.45: Junction. Turn right. 0.55: Junction. Turn right onto California Riding and Hiking Trail.
0.7: Junction. Turn left onto Franklin Ridge Loop Trail.
0.9: Unsigned junction. Turn right to remain on the loop trail.
1.6: Unsigned junction. Turn right to remain on Franklin Ridge Loop Trail.
1.85: Unsigned junction with path to viewpoint. Turn left (optional).
1.95: Bench and hilltop. Retrace your tracks to Franklin Ridge Loop Trail.
2.0: Turn left, back onto the loop trail.
2.1: Unsigned junction. Continue straight.
2.4: Unsigned junction with path to bench. Continue straight.
2.6: Unsigned junction. Continue straight.
2.8: Junction. Turn left onto California Riding and Hiking Trail.
3.4: Gate, and return to parking lot.

Getting there:
From CA 4 in Contra Costa County, exit Alhambra Avenue (exit 9). Drive north on Alhambra about 2 miles, then turn left (at a stop sign) onto Escobar. Drive about 0.1 mile, then turn right onto Talbart. Drive on Talbart (which becomes Carquinez Scenic Drive) about 0.3 mile, then turn left onto the Nejedly Staging Area.
