Beginning at Skeggs Point, this 6 mile loop descends into a quiet redwood and tanoak forest, then gradually climbs back uphill through woods and pockets of chaparral. A short out-and-back stretch visits the tafoni formation.
High points:
There's a mix of fire road and singletrack to keep things interesting. A quick and relaxing getaway hike through a gorgeous forest.
Low points:
Lots of bike traffic, mostly on weekends -- make sure to stay alert on singletrack trails with blind curves. Parking is tough if you arrive later than mid-morning. Scampering across Skyline Boulevard to get back and forth to and from the preserve is a less than optimal experience.

High points:
This short and easy 3.3 mile hike can be extended from almost every junction. All the trails on this hike are fire roads (except the short hiking-only path to the tafoni), which minimizes bike conflicts.
Low points:
Bring a map to navigate the junctions, even though everything is signed.
